Teaching
I teach regularly at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, at HSBA in Germany, and I am an instructor in the intro track of the System Dynamics Society Summer School.
And at the University of Bergen in Norway
This is the perfect combination as the lectures at ETH focus on applying system dynamics to food systems research while the lectures at UiB challenge me in teaching system dynamics and nothing but system dynamics to a crowd of bright master students from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds.
Course Highlight
GEO-SD304 System Dynamics Modelling Process
In GEO-SD304, students have to build their very first system dynamics model. The grade for their modeling project is determined by a report incl. model documentation plus a presentation of their project in the form of a 3-minutes video clip.
The video clips produced for the course are always fantastic to watch. Here are some of my all-time favorites:
- Henri Contor (2021) on “Energy Transition: Are we Shifting the Burden?”
- Martin Breda Grimeland (2020) on why social media use is increasing
- Jefferson Rajah (2020) on “Where has the passion gone?”
- Johanna Olovsson (2019) on local electricity decentralization
- Cherie Forbes (2019) on ecological system dynamics
- Lilli Schütz (2019) on resilience
- Marjan Shamayeli (2019) on the dynamics of growth and recruitment
- Dana Ilmari Plojärvi (2018) on how to avoid social collapse
- Ema Gusheva (2018) on policy addition and sexually transmitted diseases
- Melody Lwo (2018) on gender issues in big tech companies
- Aliaksandr Daradzeika (2017) on the dynamics of workaholism
- Wang Zhao (2017) on the dynamics of procrastination
- Inchon Choi (2017) on the analogy of depression and undiscovered rework
- Sandor Frigyik (2017) on the dynamics of exercise and work accomplishment
