Dissemination

Here you will find examples of my main dissemination activities such as teaching, working with bachelor, master and PhD students. This page also lists interviews that I have given and it describes the conferences I have organized in the recent past.

Teaching

I teach regularly at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, at HSBA in Germany, and I am an instructor in the intro track of the System Dynamics Society Summer School.

    • ETH: CourseDynamic Simulation in Agricultural and Regional Economics
    • HSBA: Module: Systemisches Denken.

And at the University of Bergen in Norway

    • GEO-SD304: System Dynamics Modeling Process
    • GEO-SD325: Client-based modeling project
    • GEO-SD310: Writing course and project description
    • SDG312: Systems thinking and modelling as a framework for sustainability analysis and action

This is the perfect combination as the lectures at ETH focus on applying system dynamics to food systems research while the lectures at UiB challenge me in teaching system dynamics and nothing but system dynamics to a crowd of bright master students from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds.

In 2019, I started teaching an absolutely fabulous PhD course with two even more fabulous co-instructors at the University of Bergen.

  • SDG900: PhD for Innovation. Interdisciplinary course from systems thinking through creative problem-solving to R&D management

Course Highlight

GEO-SD304 System Dynamics Modelling Process

In GEO-SD304, students have to build their very first system dynamics model. The grade for their modeling project is determined by a report incl. model documentation plus a presentation of their project in the form of a 3-minutes video clip.

The video clips produced for the course are always fantastic to watch. Here are some of my all-time favorites:
